Why Wi-Fi & The Android App?

You’ve likely heard us talk about how we use Wi-Fi, Android devices, and a customized Android app with our AGI products. You may be wondering, “Why Wi-Fi? And why Android?”

There are many reasons why we’ve chosen to integrate these directly with our SuperSting product set, which we’ve explained below.

Why Wi-Fi?

A Wi-Fi connection from the SuperSting to the Android device makes our system easy-to-use and extremely user-friendly. Additionally:

  • You can flash update the firmware of your instrumentation automatically.

  • Wi-Fi is available everywhere and allowed internationally.

  • You’ll be using a secure wireless connection to interface to your SuperSting.

Why Android?

Our SuperSting system is directly integrated with our Android SuperSting Manager App (SSM), available in the Google Play store. You can manage and control your SuperSting imaging system from an Android 7-inch or 10-inch tablet or any Android smartphone.

But why Android over any other platform? (Let us count the reasons!)

  • Third-party Android applications: Android automatically connects to many great third-party applications like Skype, email, Bluetooth file-sharing, Google Earth, Dropbox, PushBullet, and other applications. These can extend your fieldwork experience and make the imaging process easier and more efficient.

  • Simple data-sharing: Send data or screenshots immediately from the field to your processing center, office, website, or clients via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or email.

  • Application-specific features: Use the file manager, text editor, and pseudosection data viewer directly built into the Android SuperSting Manager App (SSM) to parse through data points and measurements easily.

  • Mobility and comfort: Having to hover over an instrument console at all times is not only inconvenient—it can be downright uncomfortable. By using an Android tablet or phone, you can work from wherever is most comfortable for you—in the shade of a tree or in your climate-controlled vehicle—up to 100 meters away.

  • Real-time quality assurance: If there’s anything that could be affecting your survey, you want to know ahead of time—not after the fact. You will receive alerts when the survey is about to complete and can check your data as it is being collected to check for accuracy and quality.

  • Easy-to-view IP data: Display of real-time pseudo-section in color as well as IP real time IP curve presentation.

  • Zero boot-up time: Laptops take time to boot up—but Android devices are instantly on and ready to go with no wait time.

  • Long battery life: Android devices typically offer over eight hours of use—a much longer battery life than laptops.

  • Sunlight-readable AMOLED display: Unlike laptops, Android devices are sunlight-readable and can be used in any environment, at any time of day.

  • Inexpensive: The applications used on an Android device—as well as the phone or tablet itself—are extremely affordable.

  • Simple upload and download: Upload command files and download data files directly and automatically from the Android application. And because the original data stays on the instrument, you don’t have to worry about file issues.
